MOTHER’S DAY VIGIL AT THE NW DETENTION CENTER IN TACOMA: Saturday, May 11 12 - 2 PM, 1623 East “J” St. in Tacoma,
The NW Detention Center in Tacoma is the nation’s third largest detention center for undocumented immigrants with 1575 beds. It is a for-profit facility run by a private multi-national corporation.

Participants from Oregon, Montana, Idaho, and Washington will rally at the front gate for prayer, songs, and speeches from clergy, the immigrant community, and lay persons.  A taco truck will be on site for snacks. EASTSIDE LEGAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: ELAP’s third annual Breakfast for Justice - Thursday, May 16th, Meydenbauer Center, Bellevue. Registration at 7:00 a.m. Program 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.  The keynote speaker will be Dan Satterberg, King County Prosecuting Attorney, who will offer insight into the phenomenon of victim recantation in the prosecution of domestic violence cases and will talk about the support that vulnerable victims need to change their lives and end the abuse. There is fee to park or to attend, however, the suggested minimum donation is $100. For more information, visit http://elap.org/events.htm.

BELLEVUE WEEKEND BACKPACK PROGRAM: The reality is that in the Bellevue School District there are 185 known homeless students and 3,828 students on free or reduced cost lunch.  The Bellevue Weekend Backpack Program is recruiting committed volunteers to provide 60 students each week with a backpack of groceries that will provide them with the nutrition they need to get through the weekend when school lunch is not available.  For only $12 you can provide a backpack containing easy meals that students can prepare over the weekend.  To donate or to volunteer, please contact Janet Starr ad 425-221-8544 or jdstarrs@gmail.com.

NAMI EASTSIDE: The Eastside chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness holds monthly educational forums on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland on meaningful topics for people impacted by mental illness. Each presentation is followed by a question and answer session with the speakers.

All presentations are FREE and open to the public.
