HOW CAN EISCC BETTER SERVE ITS MEMBER CONGREGATIONS
Moderated by EISCC co-president, Rev. Rick Russell, a spirited discussion took place on the topic of how EISCC can better foster and support the outreach efforts of its member congregations. Much of this discussion centered on making the recently developed EISCC website (www.eiscc.net) work better for members. Among the suggestions:
The website should have “Volunteer Opportunities” section where EISCC member congregations and agencies can list upcoming service opportunities.
The website should have an “Agency Needs” section where EISCC members can list needs other than volunteers and financial donations. For example, this is where Congregations for the Homeless might list the items their shelter and permanent housing clients need.
The current “Announcement” section should be broken down into three subsections: Volunteer/Service Opportunities, EISCC Agency Needs, and EISCC Member Events.
The link to the PDF version of the complete EISCC newsletter should be featured more prominently.
As a result of the discussion, it was decided that the EISCC Executive Committee will draft an email to be sent to all EISCC congregations and agencies requesting that they share with EISCC any information they’d like to share on the website.
In addition to suggesting improvements to the EISCC website, it was suggested that all representatives attending EISCC meetings work to find creative and effective ways to communicate information learned at these meetings to their larger congregations, either through reports given to other church leaders, the sharing of announcements, church newsletter articles, or in other ways.
CLOSING PRAYER: A closing prayer was offered by Rev. Rick Russell of Eastgate Congregational United Church of Christ.
